I'm OK, You're OK

Hello Everyone!
I am so excited to be blogging about relationships and how they are really just a dance for most people.
I got my start in 1981, when I married my husband. We have been together for more than 30 years! However, it has not been an easy gig!
I served some time in the USAF, from 1981 to 1990. My husband and I were traveling the world together. We  finally arrived in the US from Germany in 1991.
In 1992, I had begun teaching a Computer Technology program for a proprietary school. I realized that my penchant for social interactions were not really revered by my "technical" students. I am an extrovert, and very people oriented and social. Working with things was not what I wanted to do with my life. The students I was teaching were primarily analytic introverts. They were very task oriented and it made it difficult for me to teach and for them to learn.
In the fall of 1992, my husband and I had been married for 11 years. I was not happy at all! I am a classic pile maker, and he is a classic filer! I would load the dishwasher by putting the dishes in it in a haphazard manner. He would come behind me and straighten it out. He would say, "we need to get around to doing so and so" but his "getting around" to it, meant "stop, drop, and roll." I was going crazy!
My boss thought it would be good for me to attend a workshop on temperaments and learning styles. The workshop was 6 hours and was so enlightening for me! I learned that I am supposed to be who I am, and I learned that my husband is supposed to be the way he is! I married him because he had characteristics that I didn't have and he married me because I had what was missing in his life. It is easy to be attracted to someone while dating, admiring each of your differences. But when you get married, it seems those same differences cause so much friction in the marriage.
I learned that it is OK for me to be different, and it is OK for him to be different, and that our relationship is only a dance!
